Ecova and Tendril Selected to Deliver Integrated, Cost-Effective Energy Efficiency Portfolio to More Than One Million Residential Customers

Ecova will unite multiple points of engagement, a proven industry
innovator and technology-optimized solutions to help residential utility
customers easily navigate the pathway to whole home energy efficiency

SPOKANE, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#energyefficiencyEcova,
a wholly owned subsidiary of ENGIE and a leader in energy and
sustainability management solutions, today announced it has been
selected by a large electric utility located in the mid-Atlantic to
manage its comprehensive residential energy efficiency portfolio.
Through this new, five-year agreement, Ecova, along with its strategic
collaborator Tendril, will help more than one million residential
customers take greater control of their energy usage.

At the heart of this effort is a unique approach that initiates an
ongoing dialogue with residential consumers by leveraging data and
analytics to simplify and streamline the data about how consumers use
energy in their homes and, thus, how they can save. This integrated
approach is designed to yield higher rates of customer satisfaction and
position the utility as a trusted provider in whole home energy

Residential customers are seeking a more services-oriented, personalized
and digital approach. Utilities are able to enhance residential
customers’ experiences by uniting energy
efficiency program offerings
into a single source that brings the
customer to the forefront and creates a centralized and individualized
energy efficiency program.

Ecova’s integrated approach – drawing on powerful data analytics and
synergies across programs – is designed to present customers with a
clear and well-defined path to participate in the utility’s energy
efficiency portfolio, including energy efficient lighting and
appliances, whole home energy efficient upgrades, appliance recycling,
student energy efficiency education, and home behavior and education. By
integrating all of these programs, the utility can:

  • Achieve or exceed its energy savings goals over the five-year phase
while laying the foundation for long-term, sustainable energy savings
    as the market evolves.
  • Provide all portfolio components cost-effectively, leveraging existing
resources, staffing efficiencies, and marketing techniques to meet the
utility’s dollar-per-kWh expectations while assuring the high quality
    of service.
  • Leverage sophisticated data analytics and industry thought leadership
to maximize flexibility and nimbly adjust portfolio components in
    response to changing market conditions.

“For more than 15 years, Ecova has worked with utilities to empower
residential customers to take charge of their home energy usage,” said Jana
, president and chief executive officer for Ecova. “This
strategic collaboration with Tendril is a new step in helping utilities
use their energy efficiency portfolio as a conversation starter to
achieve a more unified customer experience. With a strong foundation
grounded in data and insight, Ecova is uniquely positioned to enhance
residential customers’ experience by uniting its numerous residential
offerings into a single source of truth for whole home energy

“This collaboration validates our view of where the industry is headed
and establishes our joint client as a trailblazer in ushering in a new
era of delivering energy as a service,” said Adrian Tuck, chief
executive officer for Tendril. “We are pleased to lend our data
analytics software and expertise to help utilities achieve a truly
integrated energy efficiency portfolio.”

In early 2015, ENGIE invested in Tendril through its investment fund
ENGIE New Ventures, which targets innovative start-up companies. This
investment and the subsequent collaboration between Ecova and Tendril
reflect ENGIE’s priority of providing a range of innovative energy
solutions for its customers.
