Explore the World without a Passport! PECO Multicultural Series Returns to Penn’s Landing

PHILADELPHIA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–This summer, experience the exciting rhythms of the Caribbean, the
alluring scents of European fare and much more at the 2016 PECO
Multicultural Series. The festivals kick off June 5 and continue through
September 25 on the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing (101 S. Columbus Blvd.
at Chestnut Street).

For nearly 20 years, the PECO Multicultural Series has celebrated the
region’s diverse cultures. The festivals offer a variety of culturally
rich events with a chance to explore the world without leaving
Philadelphia. This season of FREE, family-friendly programming
includes eight festivals highlighting Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin
America and South America.

The 2016 PECO Multicultural Series includes:

  • Irish Festival (June 5, Noon to 8 p.m.) – Featuring Irish
    musicians and dancers, bagpipers and traditional foods, including
    shepherd’s pie and bangers and mash. Craft vendors also will be onsite
    selling authentic Irish goods.
  • Hispanic Fiesta (July 9-10, 2 to 8 p.m.) – One of
    Philadelphia’s premier Latino events, raising awareness of the Latino
    culture and community through music, dance, entertainment, ethnic
    foods and artisan crafts from nearly all of the Latin American
    countries.
  • Islamic Heritage Festival (July 23, 2 to 8 p.m.) – The 24th
    annual festival features games, speakers, a health and wellness fair,
    free giveaways, entertainment and a global open market bazaar.
  • ACANA Festival (August 7, 2 to 8 p.m.) – Providing a wide range
    of African entertainment, from traditional performances to modern
    Afropop and reggae performances, the African Cultural Alliance of
    North America Inc. (ACANA) brings artists, groups and dance troupes
    from across Africa to perform. The event also features African food,
    and arts and crafts vendors.
  • Festival of India (August 20, 1 to 7 p.m.) – Celebrating
    India’s Independence Day and reflecting the vibrant Indian-American
    community in the Greater Philadelphia area through a colorful panorama
    of art, music, dance and cuisine.
  • Caribbean Festival (August 21, Noon to 8 p.m.) – Featuring
    culture, music and food from 14 Caribbean islands, a children’s
    corner, marketplace, Caribbean workshop and music from across the
    islands. The festival also helps raise scholarship funds for college
    students of Caribbean descent.
  • Mexican Independence Day Festival (September 18, 2 to 7 p.m.)
    Celebrating Mexican independence with music, food, arts and crafts,
    face painting, giveaways and more.
  • Brazilian Day Philadelphia (September 25, 1 to 7 p.m.)
    Highlighting Brazilian Independence Day through a variety of
    traditional foods, merchandise and performances, including samba,
    forró, pagode, capoeira, samba-reggae and more.
