Parents and Schools Team Up to Promote Parental Engagement in Schools

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Local community leaders will host a training for parents about
meaningful ways to get involved in their child’s school on Wednesday,
January 20.

Parents Challenge is organizing the event in conjunction with National
School Choice Week on January 20 from 5:30–8:00 pm at the 21 C Library
to promote the importance of parental engagement. In addition to
offering training, tools, and advocacy to parents, Parents Challenge has
provided financial assistance to low income children for fifteen years.

“National School Choice Week raises awareness of all educational options
for parents across the country. By partnering with them, we can turn
that new awareness into action, visibly making an impact in parental
choice in education,” said Deborah Hendrix, executive director of
Parents Challenge.

This event promotes the importance of parental engagement. Parents in
private, public, charter, and homeschool will attend, and schools are
invited to showcase their options by hosting a table. The keynote
speaker will be Dedrick Sims, CEO of Sims/Fayola Foundation. He is an
educator, parent, community leader, author, and former executive
director/founder of Denver’s first public charter schools for males.

Over 150 parents, school administrators, teachers, and students are
expected to attend.
