Li Joins as Second Corporate Lateral in Cleveland in 2016
Hine LLP is pleased to announce that Pingshan Li has joined the
firm’s Corporate Transactions & Securities practice as a partner in
Cleveland. Li comes from Ulmer & Berne LLP, where he was the head of
that firm’s China practice.
Li is the second lateral partner to join the Cleveland office’s
Corporate practice in 2016, following the addition of David D. Watson
earlier this year. With Li’s addition, Thompson Hine continues the
firmwide growth of its Corporate Practice Group, now at 85 lawyers.
Li represents Asian companies in direct investment and expansion-related
matters in North America, as well as U.S. companies doing business in
Asia. Li’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures,
corporate finance, corporate governance, public company compliance,
international business transactions and managing cross-border commercial
litigation. He also represents clients in technology transactions and
intellectual property rights protections. Li has substantial corporate
and legal experience in China. He currently acts as outside general
counsel for several large multinational companies and he also serves as
corporate secretary for several clients’ boards of directors.
“Thompson Hine offers an ideal platform for my clients,” said Li. “My
clients will benefit from the firm’s innovation in service delivery and
its SmartPaTH® program. I know that my clients will
appreciate access to the excellent lawyers in the firm’s International
Trade, Transportation, Labor & Employment, Immigration and Business
Litigation practice groups.”
Li previously worked as a claim manager at China Shipowners Mutual
Assurance Association located in Beijing, where he represented
shipowners and P&I clubs in maritime matters in both Chinese and U.S.
international ports. Li is a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese and was
born and raised in the Liaoning province of China.
“We are very pleased to welcome Ping to the Cleveland office,” said
Robyn Minter Smyers, Cleveland office partner-in-charge. “His extensive
experience in working with Asian entities operating in the United States
will benefit our clients tremendously.”
Li received a J.D. from the Case Western Reserve University School of
Law in 2008, an LL.M. from University College London in 2000, and a B.S.
and LL.M. from Dalian Maritime University, located in the Liaoning
province of China, in 1998.
