Virginia Virtual Academy Students Prepare for 2016-2017 School Year

– Statewide online public school now offering grades K-8 –

Virtual Academy
(VAVA), an accredited, full-time online public
school that serves students in grades K through 8, will begin the
2016-2017 school year on August 22. VAVA educates students through an
engaging online curriculum that is supplemented with hands-on materials
and the instruction of state-certified teachers. VAVA is open to K-8
students who are official residents of the state of Virginia. Next year,
VAVA will be open to students in grades K-10.

Families who are interested in VAVA are invited to attend an online
information session or in-person meet-and-greet event to learn more from
teachers, students and parents. Details can be found on the school

The curriculum is designed to adapt to each student’s unique learning
style. This allows the student and the Learning Coach (typically the
parent or guardian) to determine the pace of the lessons, giving
advanced learners the ability to move ahead more quickly than they might
be able to in a traditional classroom. Students can also opt to progress
more slowly through the lessons and concepts that they find more
challenging. This individualization, combined with support from VAVA
teachers, encourages a true grasp of the skills and material.

VAVA provides courses in language arts/English, math, science, and
history as well as electives in art and music. With hundreds of lessons
per subject, students can dive deeply into areas of interest.

“At Virginia Virtual Academy, we establish an individualized education
for every student,” said Suzanne Sloane, Head of School at Virginia
Virtual Academy. “Our teachers are available to work closely with
families to ensure our students meet their academic goals and develop
the learning style that works best for them.”

VAVA students receive instruction from their teachers during live,
interactive online classes, as well as through recorded sessions and the
award-winning Online School platform. Teachers are also available to
students and their Learning Coaches via email, phone and
one-on-one online instruction. VAVA teachers strive to form a
partnership with Learning Coaches so that students’ challenges and
achievements can be more closely addressed.
